Thanks to Paul Martell we have these great photos of WIllie Nelson and Family from the Ravinia Festival, in the Chicago, Illinois suburb of  Highland Park. Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real and Jamey Johnson opened the show,  and later they joined the fun on Dad’s set.  Happy Birthday Jamey.

Standing tough at 80 years old, Willie Nelson proved he can still rock when he played Ravinia Festival Sunday night.

After an opening performance by Nelson’s son Lukas Autry, of a newer country sound, Beatles covers, and a mesmerizing Hendrix-esque guitar solo played by his teeth, Autry (stage name POTR) later came on to play with Nelson and The Family.

In one respect, Sunday’s early show at the Bluebird Cafe was par for the course. A pair of country singers, songwriters and friends picked up guitars and shared the tiny stage to trade off on tunes they had written.

There was one huge difference, of course: Those songs included “Crazy,” “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down” and “Funny How Time Slips Away,” because the performers were Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson.
